Nendo: Baccarat Harcourt

Nendo revisited the iconic Baccarat’s collection Harcourt in a playful way, designing a big chessgame in clear or midnight blue crystal.

The 32 pieces are hand-cut from the famous Harcourt glass and are shaped in the form of the king’s crown, the hem of the queen’s robes and the bishop’s mitre. The board illuminates the pieces including the red square, which is the Baccarat’s signature.

Jonas Wagell expands Swell sofa range for Normann Copenhagen

Danish furniture brand Normann Copenhagen has launched an armchair and two-seater version of the padded Swell sofa created by Swedish designer Jonas Wagell to resemble risen bread.

"[Bread] is a good and descriptive way to communicate the form," Wagell told Dezeen. "The words and the name paints pictures before people have even seen the product."

Each piece in the Swell range features bulky armrests and curved padded seats, plus stitching divides the seats and back of the sofa.

Both the sofas and the armchair are raised off the ground on small steel feet.

The bulbous shape is created by a wooden structure covered in polyether foam, which is then upholstered. There are 21 colours to choose from.

The extended collection was launched at the Stockholm Design Fair, which took place last month. The three-seater sofa first debuted during Milan design week last year.

Note Design for Fogia

© Mathias Nero

Rise, designed by Note Design Studio for Fogia, is a classic sofa with a strong individual expression. It bears the Scandinavian identity through its distinct base in wood, where the soft upholstered shape rests on top, with a characteristic tension in its high back.

Its major challenge is to work as well in public spaces as in a home. The wrap-around back shields off a conversation in the sofa from an open floor plan in a typical office environment.

The integrated side table opens up and becomes a bridge between the piece of furniture and the rest of the room. A surface for a still life, a book, plants or whatever you choose to have close at hand.

Area is a series of smaller tables that accompany Rise and Fogias other products. Consisting of two sizes and a rich, subtle color scheme, the tables can be combined together to fine compositions of round shapes overlapping each other.

The top seem to float just above the legs, thanks to a base made in the spirit of good craftsmanship, giving it a light expression.
